Can someone tell me if my understanding here is correct.
This platform, "3dswym", is essentially part of the products that are defined as "3DExperience" products. In those products this same platform is used for many other purposes, sharing files, making work groups, collaboration etc etc? For the most part the platforms usage as a "Discussion Forum" is neither it's primary purpose nor it's intended use?
The reason I'm asking because there have been a PLETHORA of choices made that would appear to be HORRIFIC choices if viewed purely thru the lens of "Replacing the old forum with a new forum". However, at least to me, make far more sense when viewed from the lens of "Migrating Customers from "Desktop" to "3DExperience""
I'm asking this for a couple reasons. First being only familiar with SW Desktop I have no experience with "3DExperience" usage in context of other programs. Second the choices made make little logical sense from a customers perspective outside of the additional context.
That being said, and assuming I'm correct, why not simply be honest with the customer on the end goal which would be to get everyone moved over to the new platform?
If solidworks sees the future of CAD going in a certain direction then I would think their customer base would either be swayed by the reasoning behind the migration or not. If they are they will stay with DS, if not they will head in another direction. As it appears now it looks like nothing more than a complete and utter disregard for the customer which, assuming rational reasoning for wanting to move to the new platform, is going to drive away FAR more customers.
If I'm incorrect one can only be left with the belief and view that DS does not care what it's customers think at all and are fairly poor at making decisions that enhance the users experience....which will drive customers away even faster
