Hello everyone,

I am a beginner user of Abaqus, and I am running Abaqus/CAE on an HPC cluster.

I keep encountering the following problem:

Connection closed due to inactivity timeout (3600 seconds)

Details:

• Abaqus version: 2023
• HPC environment
• I am using GUI (CAE) and not the command line.
• I am unable to modify license server settings or directly control the HPC environment.
• My simulation needs to run for a long time (about 20 days), but it is being disconnected due to this inactivity timeout.

I have tried:

• Creating a personal abaqus_v6.env file with ABAQUS_CAE_IDLE_TIMEOUT=0
• Other environment settings
  …but the GUI still disconnects after the timeout.

I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions on:

• How to prevent Abaqus GUI from disconnecting due to inactivity on HPC
• Best practices for running long simulations using GUI
• Any workaround for personal users without license server access
