Hi,
I am currently working on some CFD studies where, among other parameters, I am analyzing the presence of turbulent flow within a narrow, radial flow channel. My independent variables are the cross-sectional area of the inlet pipe, and the inlet flow rate.
I am using water at a constant temperature for all of the studies, so my input viscosity and density are also controlled.
In all of the studies I have done so far, I have found an average of 7% to 16% turbulence intensity, regardless whether my peak velocity is 0.4m/s or 9m/s.
I understand the concept and the definition of the turbulence intensity, but I am struggling to use this parameter to find out whether the calculated flow is still laminar, transitioning, or fully turbulent.
Thanks!
