Reaction force zero at Reference point of a rigid impactor

Hello All,

I am trying to simulate an impact problem using Abaqus Explicit (V-6.14). The model consists of a composite plate (modeled with Continuum shell element) and a rigid impactor (fig attached) and general contact (Fig-2). Since I don’t know the velocity amplitude profile; Initial velocity is applied at the reference point of the impactor Using predefined field option (Fig-1). My expectation was that Abaqus would compute the velocity profile (Change in velocity before and after the impact) and accordingly response of the plate to that velocity loading.

Problems what I am facing during post processing

  1. Velocity (v3) at reference point shows a linear variation of the given velocity (initial velocity - zero) over the period of simulation time. (Fig-3)
  2. Reaction force (R3) at RP is zero. (Fig-4)

I am new to Abaqus, can anyone please let me know how to resolve the above mentioned issue.
