I am using two approaches to get nodal stress.

In INP file:

One is default element output at integration point, like *Element Output, directions=YES

2nd approach use *Element Output, POSITION=AVERAGED AT NODES, directions=YES

I compared to stress values between both approaches. stresses are quite different. Please see the attached figures( side by side with same scale, left figure use first default approach, right figure uses 2nd nodal averaging approach). The other nodal result like displacement( 1st figure) is the same.  It looks like Abaqus doesn't do a good job when doing nodal averaging. Any suggestion or any idea why nodal stress results are quite different? Thank you!
