Interpretation of the shell offset direction

Hi,

I would like to make sure I correctly interpret what the documentation says about the shell offset direction:

This behavior seems to be a bit counterintuitive - specifying a positive offset value, makes the expanded shell representation go in the opposite way to the normal direction of the meshed surface. However, the documentation says that offset is a "distance from midsurface to reference surface" so my understanding is that you have to measure that distance specifically from the midsurface to the reference surface (not from the reference surface to the midsurface or without considering the red vector's direction). Then it seems to make sense, but I just want to confirm that my explanation is correct and it's not just a misinterpretation accidentally agreeing with how it appears to work in Abaqus.
