Fluid Dynamics Engineer (FMK)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a CFD study of a rear wing with a DRS system in Fluid Dynamics Engineer (FMK) on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

My goal is not only to simulate the wing in two fixed positions (DRS open and DRS closed), but ideally to model the actual opening/closing motion of the flap during the simulation.

So far, I have only been able to set up steady and transient cases in a general sense, but I cannot find a clear workflow or option that allows me to define a moving aerodynamic part like a rotating DRS flap within FMK.

I would like to ask:

  • Is this type of moving geometry / flap motion actually possible in Fluid Dynamics Engineer (FMK)?
  • If yes, what is the correct workflow or app setup?
  • Or is this something that requires XFlow or another SIMULIA role instead?

At the moment I can run fixed-position CFD cases, but I am specifically trying to understand whether FMK supports a rear wing flap opening/closing during the simulation, or if the recommended approach is to study multiple fixed angles instead.

Any guidance, example workflow, or experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
