Energy associated with band-limited damping

Hi everyone,

I am trying to do an Abaqus explicit simulation  and apply some band limited damping.

In the past I used mass proportional Rayleigh damping, but not very successfully. When I increased the associated coefficient aR, the total energy ETOT remained the same, while the viscous one ALLVD increased during the simulation.

Specifically, for aR~=8 this is what I got, and as you can see the oscillations after 0.05sec were not successfully damped.

However, with Band-Limited damping ALLVD remains constant, while ETOT decreases significantly.

Specifically, for η=0.07, fl=50Hz, fh=250Hz, the oscillations were successfully damped, but the decrease in the total energy is significant.

It seems like the dissipated energy from band-limited damping is accounted for in the ETOT output. However, the documentation mentions that all material dissipation is included in ALLVD. Comparing the ALLSE, the results seem accurate, but I am not sure how to judge the amount of band-limited damping that I am applying.

Any information regarding the energy output associated with band-limited damping would be greatly appreciated.

Thank youDampingdamping
