Element relative thickness for Continuum Shell element

Hello All,

I am using Continuum shell element for simulating impact problem. Each and every layup consists of a single ply. Thickness of the layer is 0.5 mm. Now, considering single element across the thickness, as per my understanding in this case element relative thickness should be 1 (ply thickness/element thickness = 0.5/0.5 =1).

Suppose, I want to create 2 elements across the thickness, in that case also element relative thickness would be 1. Only if there are more than one ply in a single layer then only element relative thickness becomes different than 1. Can anyone please suggest if this is correct?

Thanks
