Doing a finite element surface calculation

Hello everybody,

I am using the module SIMULIA of the 3DExperience platform (2016 version) and I am kind of new to the finite element analysis world.

I was asked not to do a volumic simulation anymore but to do a finite element surface calculation by using the neutral axis (available in the Generative Shape Design module of CATIA --> Transform --> Use median surface in automatic) but I have never done that before (I always worked in volumic either with solid section or shell section) so I'm perplex to what to do, do I first create median surfaces for the entire parts of my model and then mesh it? Do I even have to mesh it? Do I mesh it with 2D elements and then I'm done? What should I pick for the "Properties" section if it's only about the surface?

Anyway, if someone could redirect me to documents, tutorials, videos, explanations... regarding this matter, I would gladly appreciate it.

Thank you very much
