Hi,
I'm working on an explicit analysis in Abaqus CAE involving two deformable parts (a rod and a shaft) and one rigid body (a pipe). The setup is as follows:
- The rigid body (pipe) is encastred.
- The rod is assigned a velocity to move toward and impact the rigid body (pipe) and passing through.
- The rod is placed slightly far from the pipe, so it has spaces to move and hit the pipe.
The shaft is positioned beneath the rigid body to bear the resulting reactions and loads.
My goal is to study the impact of the deformable rod on the shaft and analyze the reaction forces on the shaft. Here are the details of what I've done so far:
- Defined the assembly and material properties and assigned them to the respective parts.
- Used "Hex" meshes with "Reduced integration - Linear order" for both the rod and the shaft, with fine meshing.
- Applied a load to the rod in the x-direction, constraining other directions and rotations.
- Defined "General Contact" for the entire assembly and added a "Tie" constraint between the shaft and the pipe. Shaft is also encastred at the bottom with ground.
- Ensured boundary conditions and loads were applied properly.
However, after running the simulation, it seems the deformable body (rod) is not moving as expected during the impact. I would appreciate if somebody could help with this 🙂
