Automation of Kinematic Simulations and Swept Volumes Generation

Hello Simulia Community,

I'm reaching out because we have a need to identify the maximum displacements of our products in the 3DX R2025x FD02.

In the past,to achieve that in CATIA V5, we create a kinematic mechanism and generate a swept volume for each simulation case. And because this involved repetitive tasks, we automated the process with a VBA macro.

We are now trying to achieve the same result in 3DX. We can perform the steps manually :

But I am having difficulty automating them. I could not find a way in EKL to automatize the definition of a scenario for a kinematic simulation, or to compute the results and generate swept volumes as I could not find relevant information in the Language Browser.

In addition, I explored Knowledge Templates but could not instantiate one. I have an error message stating I am missing a license, even though I was using the same licenses used to create the template and the simulation (MDG, MMO, TER).

The Knowledge Template works well when I use a Physical Product as a component instead of a Kinematic Simulation, so the license issue appears to be related specifically to the Kinematic Simulation component. Without it, it means the scenario would need to be redefined each time, whereas I was hoping to use Knowledge Templates to avoid scripting this step.

Finally, I explored VBA scripting. The VBA documentation in the installation folder (...\\B427\\win_b64\\code\\bin\\DSYAutomation.chm) describes a "ComputeASweptVolume" method, which appears to meet our needs. The documentation states that this method belongs to the "VOCServices" object and it provides an example of how to retrieve that object.

However, when I use the documented code snippet, I receive an error indicating that I cannot get the "VOCServices". From this point, I am unable to proceed with the automation based on my current knowledge.

Here are now my questions :

  1. Is it possible using EKL to:
    • Create a kinematics simulation?
    • Add segmented excitations?
    • Create kinematics scenarios and manage their referenced excitations?
    • Compute a scenario?
    • Create swept volumes from the results?
  2. Is the VBA documentation correct regarding how to generate a swept volume using `ComputeASweptVolume`?
  3. Which license should be required in order to instantiate a Knowledge Template containing a Kinematic Simulation ?

Best regards,
