Hi,

My name is Ruben and I am currently using Abaqus 6.12.1 for my thesis to finish my engineering training.

I am trying to simulate the gate cutting process of a moulded plastic part in order to optimise knife parameters. I got my model to shows the fracture initiation and the removal of the gate. I defined the knife I use for cutting as a rigid body and the plastic part with the gate as a solid. I also used the Johnson Cook model to define when fracture occurs.

However I get some realistic results, the visualisation model of the model is not entirely correct. Some of the meshes keep on stretching without fracture. Also, those stretched meshes seem to go through the cutting knife wich is not possible since the knife is defined as a rigid body. Abaqus does not seem to recognise an intersection between the two parts though. Also, the stresses in the stretched meshes are very low giving the large deformations. Could there be a bug in the visualisation module or did I do something wrong in my model? I am not sure what could be causing the problem. I attached a screenshot of the my model before and after cutting.

Can anyone help me with this?
