ABAQUS/Standard rolling CPE4 vs CPE4R elements

Hi all,

I am trying to conduct a mesh study for my ABAQUS/Standard rolling simulations. Here I show sigma12 (shear stress) from two different simulations. The only difference between the simulations is the element type. The times at which I have taken these screenshots are different but both roll force/torque plots are steady so it doesn't matter. The top simulation in the screenshot is conducted with CPE4 elements and the bottom with CPE4R.

I changed the colour bars so they are the same.

I expect to have almost zero shear along the bottom of the surface that we see here, as that corresponds to the horizontal symmetry line in my sheet. I have defined a YSYMM boundary condition all along the bottom surface here but I still get pretty large (about 44 MPa) shear values at the bottom nodes in the CPE4 case. The shear values along the bottom for the CPE4R case are much smaller. I have been trying to figure out why this is the case. This discontinuity plot shows a big difference between the two simulations. Both simulations have 30 elements through the half-thickness, which is quite a dense mesh. I don't really know why this is. Anyone have any ideas?
