I have a micromechanical simulation that I have made both Abaqus/Explicit and Abaqus/Standard models for using *Dynamic, Explicit and *Static for respectively. I want the explicit simulations to be quasi-static, so I have used a small loading rate (materials are rate-independent anyways) and have varied the mass-scaling so that I can compare the computational efficiency of implicit and explicit. Attached are the stress-strain curves from the simulations. The at low enough mass-scaling the explicit simulations converge to what I think is a quasi-static result, however that result is not the same as the Implicit *Static solution (the black curve in the plot). I had expected the two solvers to converge to the same solution, so now I am wondering if I should expect them to be the same? Does anyone know if an implicit static solution and an explicit quasi-static solution should be different? Or should they be equivalent, and this is a sign I have an error somewhere in my models?
