Hello,
I understand that when modeling a sheet undergoing bending, a single fully integrated linear element (C3D8) through the thickness of the sheet is cannot capture this behavior (as it results in parasitic shear) and can become overly stiff. One solution often suggested in the documentation/classes is to use a number of reduced integration element (C3D8R) elements through the thickness of the sheet. My understanding is that with multiple elements through the thickness, each element is either undergoing compression or tension, which can be modeled accurately, and not both.
My question is this; using the same reasoning, would it reasonable to use multiple fully integrated elements through the thickness of the sheet? I cannot understand why it shouldn’t be an issue, though the documentation does not suggest doing this.
