Abaqus - Rolling in Abaqus/Explicit, unwanted oscillations in space

Hi all,

I am still getting unwanted oscillatory results in my metal rolling simulation in Abaqus/Explicit. I am modelling a half configuration (one roller and half the sheet) assuming plane strain in 2d. In my simulation, the sheet is initially in contact with the roller (see picture). The sheet is given a very low initial velocity of 0.05m/s. The roller's max angular velocity (6.283 rad/s) is reached after smooth stepping it using a smooth step amplitude curve with tabular data as follows:

This is entered as a smooth step amplitude table

Time | Amplitude

0 | 0.5/6.283

0.04 | 1

The reason the amplitude is not 0 at time zero is because we want the x component of the roller's velocity to roughly equal the velocity of the incoming sheet to avoid sudden acceleration of the sheet. A mass scaling factor of 500 was used (I usually use 2000 to speed up the simulations, but wanted to get more accurate results). Total simulation time is 0.18s.

Dimensions are: Roller radius: 0.1m and sheet thickness (half thickness really): 0.005m.

I have a lot of unwanted oscillations in space in my results that I thought would go away if I implemented the smooth stepping with reduced MS factor, but they haven't really. I am stumped as to what to try next. Does anyone have any idea? I want to achieve a steady rolling state and output my results from a late time step.
