I am modeling a segmental column with energy dissipater rebars (ED bars) using a truss element. Segmental columns include pre-cast concrete segments staged onto each other. Hence, joint openings occur under lateral loadings, and embedded ED bars are the only resisting force against joint openings. The problem is that the values for stress and strain in the foundation-segment1 joint are extremely different in the two adjacent elements. The attached figures shows values for stress and strain in two adjacent elements in different rebars and position of these elements.
What are the actual values of strain and stress in these rebars?
