Abaqus - How to include structural damping for composite beam using modal procedures in Abaqus

Hello there,

I simulated a steady state response of a composite beam with different damping properties. Beam has a loss factor of n1, while Beam B has a loss factor of n2 (see figure attached), other material properties remain the same for both beams. Material properties were defined in the beam section.


For the first approach I employed the mode-based steady-state response; because I already defined the damping properties in the section, I did not input modal damping values. The displacement results obtained were not in complex form even though I had that option selected in the procedure. However, when I input modal damping values in the procedure I get complex displacement values, so it seems to me that the modal procedure ignores the damping values applied in the beam section. Seeing that the composite beam has two independent damping properties, how can I implement this using modal procedures?


For the second approach, I used the direct steady state, and of course, complex displacement values were generated.
