I hope you are well. When simulating a composite in Abaqus, the strength values (tensile and compressive strengths in longitudinal and transverse direction and in plane shear strength ) which we put in material>fail stress (for tsai wu, tsai hill or hashin etc )are strength values of laminate or each ply? 

If these are strength values of laminate, it mean we should be having different values for the same material part of different thicknesses? 

If these are strength values of plies, i think we cant easily calculate strength values of each ply experimentally?

I am really struggling with this and would appreciate your responses.
