Anyone has experience using "duration keywords" to set project phases length?

I am trying to align durations of phases of sub projects on to the durations of the phases of a master project. It seems to be the purpose of "duration keywords" combined with task dependencies, but I am getting a result that is too complex and does not really catch the reallity I need to convey.

Are there example of use of those 2 capabilities somewhere?

Also, can we use "Duration Keywords" across Projects and Projects templates?
