We are using 3DEXPERIENCE together with SOLIDWORKS, and we are having some difficulty managing multiple Representations for the same Physical Product.
For example, in the case of a cable tie, there are situations where:
- we want the part to include full geometry, and
- we want the part to contain only metadata, without visible geometry.
To handle this, we created separate Representations under the same Physical Product, including a “transparent” or geometry-free Representation depending on the use case.
However, the behavior seems inconsistent between SOLIDWORKS and the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform:
- In SOLIDWORKS, the final geometry appears as intended when we select the desired Representation.
But in 3DPlay, the geometry still appears differently, as if the selected Representation is not being respected. - The opposite case also happens.
When the Physical Product itself has no geometry and the shape exists only in a selected Representation, SOLIDWORKS can display that Representation correctly, but on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform we cannot see the geometry properly.
So, it seems that in SOLIDWORKS we can choose which Representation to display, but that selection is not fully reflected or synchronized on the Platform side.
What we would like to know is:
- Is there a way to choose and display a specific Representation in 3DPlay or other Platform viewers after saving multiple Representations from SOLIDWORKS to 3DEXPERIENCE?
- Is this currently supported in the Platform?
- If not, is there any roadmap or development plan for this capability?
Also, if this workflow is difficult or not supported in SOLIDWORKS Connected, we are willing to consider creating such parts in another CAD app on the Platform, such as xDesign, if that would work better.
Any advice, recommended workflow, or clarification would be greatly appreciated.
