What is the difference between a "Definition Library" and a "Categorization Library"?

How long should it take to create a Library from a CATIA catalog?  

background; I have a catalog with a ton of resolved plumbing parts in it, when I click "Generate Library" it seems to just hang for hours, with no feedback and no progress bar, and barely any CPU or Memory action in the task manager.
