Scaling drawings to print (4 questions)

Hello all! Firstly, great software, but I am a Solidworks user so I would like it (I find it SO much easier to use than AutoCAD).

My 4 questions are regarding printing at a scale (I'm doing an architectural drawing) and general set-up.

In model mode, I instigated the Units as Meters (sorry Imperial people but the rest still applies). I draw my plan and that's fine. Here are the problems:

  1. When I use the dimension tool, the text size & arrows are massive!  If I scale everything up by 1000 and convert units to mm, then the reverse happens and they're tiny. How do you get the dimension text to remain a legible size?
  2. I go to print. EEK! For now, I'm printing on A4 paper (297mm x 210mm). I've figured out how to use the 'printer config'. Assuming my models in meters as in 1, I set the scale to 1:50 so it will fit on the paper. I insert a single tile and hey presto, all so far looks okay. However, printing out a 1m box, it should measure close to 20mm (1:50) and at the moment it's measuring 16mm.
  3. Related to 2, if I double click on the view tile, I can vary things in the Properties box and in Misc (the custom & standard scales), which really confuse me. Setting the standard to 1:50, the drawing disappears. Am I scaling twice in 2 different places doing this?
  4. Finally, I am unable to remove the line of the Viewport. How do I 'hide' this line from the printer?

For best practise, should I draw millimeters in 'unitless' and set scale at the end? I thought I was being clever sorting out the meter units before drawing.

All help is appreciated and valued! Thank you.

Kind regards,

Toby
