My office has just started testing on DS as an affordable option to AutoCAD. While things look great upon first glance, deeper inspection has proven buggy to say the least. I'd really love to be able to implement this software but I need some serious help.
I set up a template drawing that has 100 tabs. All tabs are set up with titleblocks and viewports and all that jazz. Also I have applied print configuration to each tab (just one standard print configuration). Everything appeared to be working fine on my workstation in relation to starting a new drawing based on the template, so I moved on to setting up a new workstation to test. Installed DS on new workstation, imported the company standard profile, set all of the other settings that were not carried over with the profile, started a new drawing based on the template and BAM! Discovered that none of the tabs is configured with the print configuration. WTH? This cant be right. What is the purpose of a template if we have to recreate the wheel every time anyway? Am I missing something here or is this really just another bug in DS that has yet to be resolved?
Another huge bug is the fact that esnap does not work in model space when going thru a viewport. Between these two issues alone, I may have to recommend another software solution as this will cost the users far more time (time = money) than to just bite the bullet and buy AutoCAD.
There are other bugs as well, like some of the option settings appear to reset themselves arbitrarily too. Dimension styles do keep all of their settings and like to revert to the default "byblock", and using the icon switches is like playing russian roulette. I coded the properties of the icon to use a specific template up startup and guess what... it doesnt. Now if I open that particular template, and type smart new at the command prompt and close and reopen DS, it seems to work properly, but then if I start a new drawing with a different template the icon switch seems to go to that template drawing instead of the one that hardcoded in the icon properties! I cant explain it!
For the record, I am a proficient advanced user and administrator in AutoCAD and have been customizing AutoCAD for decades now. So it's not like I dont know what I am doing here or grasping at ghosts. Can this software really be this buggy?
