I can select the objects and modify them, but they do not appear in the viewport. I've tried changing colour, line type, line weight etc., but they remain invisible no matter what layer they are on.

When I move the cursor over the objects they are highlighted and appear.

Even weirder ... everything shows up as it should when I print (or print preview).

This is  a new install on a Windows 8 64bit OS
