I cannot select more than one thing at at time when I use commands like copy, move, etc.

When I select another object (another line, curve, etc) the first one becomes 'unselected'.

I tried also using Select then m from the command line but that had the same result.

I thought there may have been some check box in the user preferences that disabled multiselect that had inadvertantly been checked but have searched all over the place and can't find the problem.

Can anyone offer me a solution or is this a new bug?
