I used DraftSight last year until I got fed up with bugs and failings. I have been using AutoCad for Mac ever since. But that has bugs too so I thought it worth trying DS again to see if it had improved. I have spent this morning testing it and am pleased to report that the problems I had previously seem largely to have been addressed. There are still some issues which may have more to do with my lack of recent experience with DS and which members may be able to help with.
TRIM - if you use the command conventionally, selecting a cutting line, followed by the lines to be cut, all works well. But if you use the shortcut of simply double pressing the spacebar and then selecting the lines to be cut, it takes a very long time to carry out the task (although it does do it eventually). This is generally instantaneous in AC.
MAGNETIC SNAP - i have noticed that the "magnetism" of the entity snap is very much lower than with AC. Is it user definable?
SPACEBAR - In general in AC you can use the spacebar in lieu of the Enter key. So if you are hatching (say), you can keep hitting the spacebar to indicate acceptance of defaults. With DS you have to use the mouse to signify acceptance.
USER SETTINGS - DS is being regularly updated and I note is still in Beta stage for Macs. Every time a new version is released, you have to reinstall and you lose your personal settings. Is this inevitable? It is a bore to have to reset them every time, especially if updates come along frequently.
These comments do not indicate dissatisfaction as it is really great to have such advanced software available for free. The fact that it is being continually improved despite being free is fantastic. Long live DS!
