Help with changes to opening and saving.

Every since I upgraded to DSPro, i have had very weird interactions with opening and saving files:

I cannot open a file if one is already open, this included the default blank template that opens by default. i must only use file explorer to add files after one is open. I cannot "save as" without going through the command bar and literally typing the file type, save location, and file name (a long string of folder hierarchy).

what happens is that all forms of "open" (the open icon, typing "OPEN" into the command window, navigating File>open) all prompt me to TYPE into the command window the address of the location instead of the typical, for 10 years of use, pop-up window that allows browsing through files and selecting the location). This normal operation only works if no file is open.

this same interaction is what happens for "save as" as well. I have deleted and re-installed, I have reset to default settings (numerous times). Is this a new method that has greatly hindered my work speed or is there something wrong?
