In AutoCad and Microsoft Office, the side 'places' bar in the open / save dialog box is fully customizable.  I have not found a way to add links to my 8 most common directories - so that navigation is simplified.  Seems like if this is a Windows feature that AutoCad and Microsoft Office can implement, it would be easy to add to DS!  Looking forward to changing over to DS once we see that it will meet our needs.
