I am trying to decide the smartest way economically to get from A to B.
Over a decade ago I closed business. I had Solidworks 2011 on my laptop. Now retired my wife reminds me of the remodel she always wanted which involves changing the roof line. I've grown frustrated trying to explain to potential contractors a simple modification. Then I thought I could model it up in the Solidworks that I used to use. I looked, it is still on the old laptop, and it fired up, then...
I had a DXF of my house that I thought, I will just import it into SW but it won't do it. I think it's because there is not an active version of Draftsight attached. I looked through the box of old stuff, I have Genius and Inventor. These are Acad so passed over those. I think I need to focus on Draftsight. I don't want to re-invent the wheel and spend a ton of money on a one time thing for personal use but what do I do?
To my question: If I purchase Draftsight (the \\\$99 per year version), and if I am correct that Solidworks needs Draftsight to import DXF, will the current day version work with my 2011 Solidworks?
PS I know SW is quite good at sketching up so I could do that. The challenge is going up and down the hillside with my limited mobility
