Explode text in drawing so that you can use its profile.

Would it be possible to enable text produced using TrueType fonts to be exploded in a drawing in such a way that you are able to use the outside profile of the letters.

This is useful to people with laser cutting and etching machines.

It would be even better if you could apply a tolerance when the text was being exploded to cut down the number of elements in each letter as exploding fonts can result a large number of elements per letter.

Radan's Turret Punch and Laser programming software allows you to explode text in this way, including allowing you to apply the tolerance (via a simplify command you can apply to geometry).
