Dynamic object display and highlighting

I have the latest version of DraftSight installed on 2 computers, one running XP the other Win 7. The XP installation has no issues. The Win 7 has two display problems I can't seem to fix.

1. Dynamic highlighting does not work - that is, when between commands if I drag the pointer over an object it should appear highlighted but does not.

2. Objects (such as circles and arcs) do not dynamically resize to match the pointer location. For example, when I create a circle I expect to start the command, select a center point then see a circle appear dynamically changing size to match the current pointer location as I prepare to select a radius point.  But what I see instead is a dashed line from the center to the pointer. Similarly, if I create an arc, when moving to select the 3rd defining point I expect to see an arc dynamically changing size based on the pointer location but instead of this I only see the pointer. Here's a picture of this happening while using circle.

FWIW I installed DraftSight on the Win 7 computer today (Dell Latitude E6510 with NVIDIA NVS 3100M) and problem 2 did not happen when I tried it immediately after installation - the circles and arcs appeared dynamically just fine. But then a few hours later when I got the laptop home I'm getting this behavior. Any hints or ideas (beyond rebooting of course - I already tried that).
