I'm new here, so if this post in inappropriate, please tell me.  I've searched for similar questions in this forum, but haven't found any, so I'm hoping someone can advise me on the following...

Firstly, I hope I can explain what I'm trying to achieve: I have a simple 2D drawing of how I want the side-profile of a cylindrical object to look.  Based on that drawing, I want to print a template which I can wrap around a real-world cylinder (brass tubing), to allow me to cut away parts of the cylinder such that its side-profile matches the 2D drawing.

After thinking about this, it quickly became obvious that simply stretching the drawing is not going to work, because the amount of stretch needs vary according to angle and diameter.  A quick Google tells me I'm talking about "cylindrical projection".  Assuming that's correct, my questions are these:

1. Is there any built-in mechanism within, or plugin for, DratfSight to support cylindrical projection?

2. If not, are there any downloadable tools which can take DraftSight output, and create a printable template along the lines I've described.

NOTE:  I'm looking to print a 2D image which I can wrap around a real-world 3D object.  I'm not trying to create a 3D object :-)

I've successfully used DraftSight for a number of things, and continue to be astounded at how good the product.  A huge thank you to those responsible for making it available for free!
