I have had the problem of DraftSight crashing when attempting to open a .dwg file after the program loads.  Recently, I noticed if I started Draftsight by opening a file directly from either the "recent documents" or "Windows Explorer' the program works like a charm.  The problem appears to be in the default file which is loaded when DraftSight starts up.

The problem appears on a Dell T3500 Workstation with 64 bit Win 7 as the op system. 

How do I change the file loaded during startup so I may really test my hypothesis.
