Beginner problem with dual dimension

HI all,

my first posting here so please be gentle.... I am using Draftsight as a hobbyist for drawing (very) simple things and recently came across something which even with lots of Googling still has me baffled. I have tried 2 different ways to achieve my aims, both of which differ in the results, but both effectively don't give me what I want.

I have a drawing that I made in architectural units as I wanted a drawing that would be 6feet across. It needs to be laser cut in the UK so I wanted to put on metric dimensions for the cutter as a reference....

Using the Tools/Options/Drafting Styles/Dual Dimension option I tried setting format to Decimal with a multiplier of 25.4... This gives me the alternate dimension in square brackets, but just as a number e.g. for a circle:   Ø1/4" [Ø6.35]

I want it to really say Ø1/4" [Ø6.35mm], so I thought I needed to just put "mm" in the "Suffix" box. If I do this then I get the following output: Ø1/4" [Ø6.35<>mm]

So I don't know why it shows the "<>" characters.

If I go back to the drawing and highlight the dimension then use it's properties and remove the "mm" under the "Alternate UnitSystem" I then get Ø1/4"[Ø6.35<>] and I can't remove the "<>" at all ... to remove this I have to go back through tools/options.....and do it there.

What's going on - how do I get what I want without Draftsight adding "<>"?

Best Regards,

Paul.
