I'm getting started with Draftsight. I have gone through numerous tutorials to learn the basics of drafting. I have the dimensions of a house and I would like to draft it. I figured it should be relatively feasible to do this with Draftsight. However, I am confused.

When I start Draftsight, I use the standardiso template. I go to units and change to "decimal". I use "millimetres" as block units instead of "inches". I want to draw in metric format. From what I can see, millimetres tends to be the units usually used.

When I started drawing (using snap and ortho), a line from 0,0 and enter @21350,0 as next point, that must mean 21.345 metres (or 21340 millimetres), correct? Can I proceed on this assumption?

When I use the dimensions tool to put a dimension on the line, the number (21350) is so small that it is unreadable in the sheet view.

Also, when I add a hatch to e.g. a wall in the floor plan, it appears completely black (I use a white background) rather than as a hatch. This leads me to believe that something is very wrong with the scale I am using.

I don't want to continue drawing as I have a feeling that I am doing something fundamentally wrong here. I haven't used a drawing boundary yet because I don't understand what good it can do. I tried it with an A3 size boundary (410,297) but my first 21 metre line was immediately way outside the boundard.

Any advice or tips?
