Please help!!

I have created a table in which I have merged a couple of cells, where I want larger cells in the table for more rows of text, however, I cant seem to be able to move to a second row of text in the same cell. If I keep on typing (spaces), it just makes the cell wider, and If i enter return or tab, it moves to the cell below.
