3DConnection Mouse works simultaneously in DraftSight and SolidWorks

Should a user have SolidWorks and DraftSight open simultaneously, when the user moves the 3D mouse in the DraftSight window, it will also move the model in SolidWorks simultaneously. This has the effect of causing dizziness if both are viewable at the same time (dual screen), as well as confusion and frustration as the SolidWorks geometry is no longer in the orientation the user left it in or the geometry may be off the screen because of the unintentional motion. If the SolidWorks window is active, then movement only occurs in SolidWorks, as one would expect.

Bottom line: Is there a way for the 3D mouse to operate in DraftSight only when the DraftSight window is active?

I have also submitted a request to 3DConnexion.

Hardware: 3D Connexion SpaceExplorer USB mice  (tried drivers v3.16.2 and v3.17.8)

Software used in reproducing the issue:

Windows 7 64 bit

DraftSight x64 V1R5

SolidWorks 2012 SP3, 2013 SP5, and 2014 SP2

****** UPDATE: Included a copy of message below from 3DConnexion Technical Support ********

Hello Rob -

I had a message back from the engineers after they checked on your issue with Draftsight and SolidWorks.

The source of the issue is that Draftsight uses raw input to make use of the information from a 3D device rather than using the 3Dconnexion API. When raw input is used all signals from the device are used. When the 3Dconnexion SDK is used to integrate our API inside an application, the input is specific to each application. This is not something 3Dconnexion can change since it requires access to the Dassault application code.

Our suggestion is to report this to Dassault Systemes and ask them to integrate the support for the 3D mouse using the 3Dconnexion SDK. The decision to include 3D mouse support in a development schedule is often influenced by the level of customer interest.
