Planning and Optimization tools in mining

Within GEOVIA, we deal with mining processes where material is excavated from a pit and then delivered to a processing plant. However because the plant throughput capacity and the mining capacity (trucks and excavators) are not always balanced, it is prudent to have a buffer stockpile (or multiple) in place to take up the excess material mined when the plant is full, and then have a secondary process to retrieve material from the stockpile(s) and deliver to the plant whenever there is available capacity. The general structure of this problem as well as the logistic challenges (e.g. bottlenecks, capacity mismatches) is very similar to the generic inventory (warehouse) optimization problem, which I am sure you are very familiar with and which is a great application for Delmia’s Planning and Optimization tools. Who can I speak to about the potential of applying these tools to mining problems?
