When creating FT&A in an assembly context, an Engineering Connection is automatically created in the father product. 

My question is why is this particularly beneficial? 

There is already an external reference created of the selected geometries that the annotations are connected to. These external references link to the original geometry. It feels like the external reference is enough and the Engineering Connection is almost surplus to requirement.
