Saved, Filtered Views of Models on the 3DX Platform

Hello!

For presentations with C-suite and external partners, I would like to create several views of my model (side, top elevation, isometric), but isolating a number of components (10-30%) for each view, with colours and transparency settings. These components exist in various different subassemblies and would need to be filtered individually.

My initial thought is to hide/show objects in the rich client and take screenshots to add to Powerpoint presentation. However, I would like to explore platform solutions that are active with model, so I can orbit and add/remove parts from these saved views intelligently.

The best solution I have found is Product Structure Explorer & 3DNavigate. I can create and save filters in PSE, and the results will show immediately in 3DNav. This is great, however:

  • On our large models, orbiting is very very slow, and does not include the colours and transparency we have defined in CAD (and my 3Dmouse does not work in web-based 3D environments). Not acceptable in a presentation scenario
  • Adding/removing parts from the filter is also a slow process as it reloads everything
  • I cannot save a view (e.g. the left side) in the filter, I will need to move to it in 3DNav after applying the filter
  • I can solve the first problem by opening the filtered model in the rich client, however this is limited to one filter per model. Opening a second filtered model in the rich client will open the full unfiltered model and replace the first filtered model

Another way would be to duplicate/revision branch the full model for every filtered view, open each one in the rich client and hide/show the parts, but this would be an enormous amount of data to copy and seems unnecessary.

Is there a better way?

Thank you!
