Representing assembly variants

Hello everyone,

I am currently working on developing a methodical concept in CATIA for representing assembly variants (e.g., door with damper in open and closed positions). I have found a very nice and simple solution using the CFG license. Both positions are modeled twice in a structure, and the correct position is then displayed using variant drivers.

From my perspective, this would be the perfect solution, as even non-CATIA users would have the ability to view both positions in the dashboard. Alternatively, is there a way to directly control a parameter in CATIA through a variant driver?

Another question relates to the subsequent process.

If I model both positions at 150% in CATIA and then want to derive an MBOM (Manufacturing Bill of Materials), what happens then?

Will I have my door and damper duplicated in the MBOM structure since they are depicted in both positions?

"Perhaps I should rephrase my question. I actually just want to know if it is intended to use the CFG license (configurations of CAD models) to represent mechanical positions in 3D? Or if using these functions would be considered misuse and could potentially lead to problems later on?"

Thank you for your response.
