3dswym should be the best place on the web for getting answers to questions on DS products, but the user experience is so bad that it makes me not want to use it. It seems like it is missing some basic functionality that sites like Stack Exchange use that make it a good community for generating discussion and solving problems/answering questions. Some of the missing features that are blatantly obvious to me are:
* Lack of upvote/downvote - you can vote for answers, but there isn't really any reason to vote for an answer since answers are sorted in chronological order. There also isn't a vote button for the question itself, it is a like button(although the icon is the same). Again, liking the question doesn't really provide any value in the question/answer process.
* No "hot/popular" feed sorting - There seems to only be two options for sorting the feed, either top level posts in chronological order or all activity in chronological order. Most popular sites default to a "Hot/Popular" sorting and can be changed to chronological order if users want to see the newest topics. This incentivizes the use of upvoting/liking by getting interesting content to the top and helps to prevent repeat topics or poorly formatted questions as these would not be upvoted. In addition to sorting the feed this way, answers should be sorted by most updated(after any validated answer). There is option is currently available, but it is not default and there is no way to make it the default.
* No reputation/karma system - Some people answer questions out of the goodness of their heart, but others are motivated by imaginary internet points. It seems like this could help with users validating the answers to questions. As of now there is no reason to validate an answer to your question. If both the asker and answerer got points for a validated answer then you might find that more answers would get validated.
The list goes on but these stick out to me as obvious things that are missing from the site that would make it much more functional. Have these features been discussed before and been left out intentionally? Is there some plan to get these implemented in the near future?
