I created this video where the 3D CAD part flows over a static 2D drawing. It looks cool, but it took a few hours to put together using video editing software.
The workflow was not trivial:
- Create multiple views or scenes in Design Review
- Match each 3D view to the corresponding drawing view
- Record the screen to get the video
- Use a video editor with background removal of blue ambience
- Spend time aligning the 3D content over the 2D drawing
It’s still not a perfect match, but close enough for visual explanation.
I’ve seen this type of animation on social media, created using other CAD or visualization tools.
Is there a way to do this directly in CATIA today?
And if not, do you think this would be a useful feature to add?
With all the AI capabilities coming into CATIA V6, a fast way to visually link 3D geometry to 2D drawings could be a very powerful communication tool.
How can it be done faster?
