I started a space planning volume, now I need to bring the volumes together and constrain them.

I may be construction the shapes wrong, if I make a sketch, and the extrude to have the volume, why cant I move the volume without the sketch, can I not just remove the sketch and keep the volume? I guess this would answer my second question of why I cant move one volume to constrain to a line a drew. If there a community for novice beginners like me?
