Job position: Section Leader for the spin-off CNIO-Therapeutics

The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) is seeking to recruit a Section Leader for the spin-off CNIO-Therapeutics, to apply the methods of computational chemistry and chemo informatics to the discovery of new drug candidates.

Qualifications:

- This position requires a Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics or related fields. 5 years of industrial experience (pharmaceutical company or biotech) is required.
- Candidates should possess an in-depth knowledge and comprehension of molecular modelling and chemoinformatics methods in drug discovery; from “hit identification” to “late lead optimization”. In addition, a demonstrated expertise in developing, handling and maintenance of large databases (where chemistry, biology and logistics are fully integrated), together with visualization and decision-making tools, is mandatory. These methods include molecular mechanics, molecular docking calculations, protein modelling, pharmacophore generation and analysis, library design, clustering, similarity analyses, molecular descriptors, virtual screening, scaffold hopping, ADME modelling, QSAR, statistics as well as data integration and analysis.
- The candidate should have practical and deep expertise with most of those methodologies. In addition, experience with standard software packages is mandatory; e.g. MOE, Pipeline Pilot, GOLD.
- The selected candidate will have the ability to supervise and guide Chemo informatics and Computational Chemistry for the specific requirements of the spin-off CNIO-Therapeutics, and the personnel of the section. Therefore, excellent leadership and communication skills are mandatory. Managerial experience is an advantage.
