Sheet Metal - Lesson 2 - Working With the Flat Pattern

I'm having trouble justifying and truly explaining the corner treatment done to the flat pattern. There are small notes in the text about this is for ease of manufacturing but then no noticeable changes are made to the formed model because they are only tied to the flat pattern. Also the option for displaying slits or not is confusing. I just don't see the point in having options display only on the flat pattern or it not being in line with the formed state. All the industry experienced people that come through here I ask and they don't know a purpose for that either.

I just would like some understanding of who actually uses this functionality and reasons for why they do. Why is it included in the software? Is it archaic or is it still in practice?

Thanks everyone (first post! hopefully not too ranty! Happy to be here!)
