If no one else noticed, in SW2006, SW changed the way itsearches for components. The old, simple, tried and true formulachecked all of the search directories before venturing off to otherplaces to find components.
Not so anymore. The new search schema is very convoluted, progressively working up and then down permutations of the firstspecified search folder before looking in the second specifiedsearch folder. The end result is that SW is better at findingfiles, but almost always in the wrong places!
For the most part, I work with smaller companies who do not use PDMfor reasons beyond my control. In the past, I have been able to setup controlled folders to contain released parts and projects stillin development and ensure that assemblies and drawings load withproper versions of their respective references.. It is all butimpossible now.
