I have a part (base features mirrored about CL) and I amadding features unique to either both sides, left side, or rightside. My first attempt was to create solid bodies that could bemirrored and suppressed or deleted depending on the specificconfiguration. However, I did not like dealing with multiple solidbodies that needed to be merged, combined, and/or deleted for aspecific configuration.
I am now trying a different approach. In the sketch mode, I mirrorthe sketch entities (left hand side) and covert the mirroredentities into construction geometry in the same sketch, then createthe left hand side feature. For the right hand side, I convert theconstruction geometry (previous sketch) into entities in a newsketch. This new sketch is used to create the right-hand sidefeature. Except for the common base features that where previousmirrored as one merged body, the right hand side features, and lefthand side features are in different folders which are suppressed orunsuppressed for specific configurations.
Right hand side config -> Suppress Left hand side folders
Left hand side config -> Suppress Right hand side folders
This approach seems to work better for the injection-molded part Iam modeling. One problem, suppressing the left hand side foldersuppresses the sketch that is used as a reference by the right handside. Does a option exist to suppress only features in a folderwithout suppressing sketches?
As these folders exist near the end of the feature tree, it seemsas an easier technique to control the configuration than using themulti-body approach.
Concerning performance, is it better to add fillets beforemirroring a body about the CL, or add fillets after mirroring? Doesit make any difference? Should I add a design table to this part tocontrol configurations? Does that affect performance aswell?SolidworksParts And Features
